If you would like to lead groups of people on mountain bikes you will need a qualification. Here at 1Bike1 we have been running MBLA (previously SMBLA) mountain bike instructor training courses and assessments for a number of years now to provide just such a qualification.

The courses we run are the Mountain Bike Leader Award (MBLA) Scheme. The awards offered are the only National Governing Body (NGB) Awards in the UK with British Cycling being the NGB.

There are two levels of award available, Trail Cycle Leader (TCL) and Mountain Bike Leader (MBL); both awards are valid throughout the UK and Europe. In addition to the above Awards you can attend a Night Riding Module (NRM) which allows you to lead groups at night.

Why Choose Us?

We have been in the cycling business for nine years, leading groups on a very regular basis, teaching and coaching skills, hiring bikes out, servicing bikes, selling new bikes and acting as technical advisors for a number of outdoor education centres and organisations.

Jonathan Collins of 1Bike1 (formerly Snowdonia Cycle Hire & Training) has been a registered MBLA Tutor since June 2006. As well as running MBLA training courses and assessments for ourselves, we run them for Plas y Brenin, the National Mountain Centre and other centres and organisations. We have built a solid reputation for quality and reliability which only comes with experience.

"Many thanks for making the two day training so enjoyable. Your approach to instruction/teaching is excellent. I spend many hours assessing teachers and Police Trainers in the work place and can confidently say you are up there with the best! My thanks again."

"Wanted to thank you you once again for the TCL course, thoroughly enjoyed it! I have to say it was one of the best training courses I have been on. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone and will do so."

"Well, I'm off to Whistler on 11th May, so thanks again for getting me through the TCL course in one piece!"

What is the MBLA?

The Mountain Bike Leader Award (MBLA) Scheme was developed by Scottish Cycling in conjunction with the Scottish Advisory Panel in Outdoor Education as the industry standard for mountain bike leadership qualifications. It is recognised as a model for best practise throughout the UK and Europe. In September 2010 the SMBLA rebranded as the MBLA.

Scottish Cycling is the governing body for cycle sport in Scotland and an integral part of British Cycling, the UK governing body for cycling sport.

The MBLA Scheme is recognised by the
Adventure Activities Licensing Service (AALS) and by British Cycling.

What do they do?

The Scheme provides training and assessment in mountain biking and leadership skills through registered MBLA Tutors. Jonathan Collins of 1Bike1 (formerly Snowdonia Cycle Hire & Training) has been a registered MBLA Tutor since June 2006.
